One of the great joys of being a product manager is the ability to work with all sorts of people to deliver products customers love. From working with engineers, designers and analysts to working alongside business partners, marketers and commercial teams, I have lots of experience tailoring how I work to the environments I find myself in.
George, a colleague I worked with extensively, kindly gave me some feedback here:
In my time at Tesco (over 6 years), I’ve worked with a long list of product managers – varying in both experience and seniority. Jack is the best product manager, and probably one of the best people, I have ever worked with. I’ve never worked with someone as dedicated, passionate, and with such un-relenting energy as Jack. It’s impossible to be in a meeting with him, and not be inspired by the way he conducts himself. He is the reason the Favourites squad is running as well as it is (although I’m sure he’d be far too humble to agree). I know how challenging it can be to keep so many plates spinning, and to do this all with enough energy left over to inspire innovation from within others is an exceptional skill.
One of Jack’s key skills is running an inclusive meeting – giving a platform for people to share their thoughts – but also know the right time to step in to stop the session spiralling. Jack has found the sweet-spot of running meetings efficiently but effectively – and this is the reason we’re able to churn out as many positive tests as we have within the space. From a (perhaps selfish!) point of view, I really appreciate how receptive Jack has been to all the analytics work we’ve been doing. He truly believes in data-driven decisions, listens intently to our thoughts, and makes us feel validated. It’s this behaviour that makes me want to go above-and-beyond to support him. Whilst I can’t speak for them, I would be surprised if the other functions within the squad feel differently.
Which formed part of a wider series of feedback I received during my time at Tesco:
